A special Thank-You to Mr. Mohamed Abdel Salam for his contributions to the World Forum
This past week, the World Forum of CSDs (WFC) held a meeting of its Board without the
participation of Mr. Mohamed Abdel Salam our Chairman, until recently having worked for Misr
for Central Clearing, Depository & Registry (MCDR), the Egyptian CSD. He has been a
permanent fixture on the WFC Board since its inception more than 9 years ago. While not
present physically, his influence was, and will continue to be felt in the future, as the WFC
strives to fulfil the vision he had for the organization as a Board member and during his two
terms as WFC Chairman.
Mr. Abdel Salam, or ‘Mr. Mohamed’ as he is known to many of his friends and colleagues at the
WFC, was instrumental in the formation of the WFC during the Global CSD conference held in
Cape Town, South Africa in 2011, which was co-hosted by the Africa & Middle East
Depositories Association (AMEDA) and Strate, the South African Depository.
‘Mr. Mohamed’ was instrumental in the founding of AMEDA in 2005, and served as its
President until recently when he retired from MCDR or the Egyptian CSD, and stepped down as
AMEDA President. He continues as Honorary President of AMEDA.
Whether discussing current industry issues, global politics, or the exploits of MCDR’s football
(soccer) team, conversations with Mohamed were always interesting.
Mr. Abdel Salam submitted his notice of retirement from the WFC Board on November 12th, and
will be greatly missed by his industry friends and colleagues from across the globe.
We want to take this opportunity to thank him for his tremendous contributions over the years
and extend our best wishes for the future.
Your friends and colleagues of the World Forum of CSDs.
